Stop Putting Up With These 6 Narcissistic Behaviors
They need constant praise.
If you choose anyone over them, even yourself and your own mental health, there’s going to be hell to pay. You’re not allowed to place other friends, family members, or even pets above them. They want to be the most important thing in your world. They want you to drop everything when they call, even when it’s inconvenient for you. If you’re not constantly telling them how great they are and how much you love them, they’ll treat you as the enemy.
They’re entitled.
They have an inflated sense of self-importance. They believe they deserve everything that they want, regardless of whether it hurts other people in their world. If one tiny little thing doesn’t go their way, they will throw a fit. They cannot handle hearing the word no. They cannot take it when their wants are ignored. They act like the world revolves around them and believe everyone should cater to their feelings.
They constantly send you on guilt trips.
Even when you’re upset, they’ll find a way to turn the situation around and blame you for whatever you’re feeling. You never have a right to be angry or hurt or annoyed – but they’re allowed to yell and scream without consequence. If you try to stick up to them, they will make you feel like the bad guy. You can’t win an argument with them because they would rather say the most hurtful things possible than admit to any wrongdoing on their part.
They lack empathy for others.
They aren’t able to put themselves in anyone else’s shoes. Instead of trying to see a situation from another perspective, they will villainize the other person. They will act like they were wronged by the world, like they are the victim in every situation. Even if the reason someone canceled plans with them or stuck up to them is completely valid, they will find a reason to be angry. They will blame the other person whenever their feelings are hurt, even when that other person has done nothing wrong.
Everything is about them.
When anyone else is in the spotlight, they grow irritated. They cannot stand it when the attention is on anyone else. They need to be the center of attention at all times, which is why they take the lead in every single conversation. Whenever you try to talk about your own life, they talk over you or jump into a story about when something similar happened to them. You can rarely get a word in.
They are emotionally immature and unsupportive.
If they’re upset with you, they will use your biggest insecurities against you. They will purposely hurt you and then act like they’ve done nothing wrong. They will only support you when you’re making a decision that they approve of. If you’re doing something that can inconvenience them even the slightest, they’re going to make you feel stupid for going in another direction. They’re going to do their best to manipulate you into changing your mind.
