Iranian official reveals daily arrest and deportation of 250 Afghans from central province

0

The political, security, and social deputy of the Central Province has announced that around 250 Afghan migrants are detained daily in the province.

Behnam Nazari stated that after their arrest, Afghans are transferred to the Ibrahim Abad camp in Arak, and those without identity cards face deportation from Iran.

On Sunday, October 13, he told the IRNA news agency, “Foreign nationals and migrants identified and detained in Central Province are held at the Ibrahim Abad camp for 24 hours until their identity documents are verified, and if they lack identification, they will be expelled.”

According to this Iranian official, Afghans’ biometric information is collected after their arrest in Central Province. He added, “In the past when individuals were expelled, their biometric details were not recorded in the database. All those expelled are now biometrically registered in the camps, both at the point of origin and destination, including their fingerprints, facial features, and iris patterns.”

He warned that operations to identify, detain, and deport Afghan migrants are continuously on the agenda of the Central Province authorities. He mentioned that around 60,000 Afghans with electronic identity cards are legally present in Central Province, while it is estimated that between 10,000 and 12,000 undocumented individuals are also in the region without identification.

In recent months, the Iranian government has intensified the detention and deportation of Afghan migrants, forcibly returning hundreds daily to Afghanistan.

The systematic approach to detaining and deporting Afghan migrants underscores the ongoing challenges faced by this community in Iran. As authorities enforce stricter immigration policies, the impact on the lives of thousands remains significant, highlighting the urgent need for discussions around migrant rights and humanitarian considerations.
