Christodoulides to meet with British PM in London

President Nikos Christodoulides is travelling to London on Monday after an invitation by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

In a statement on Sunday, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said this is the firm bilateral meeting after Starmer’s election.

He described it as “particularly important, as [the meeting] takes place during a period where relations between the two countries have been significantly strengthened.”

Christodoulides and Starmer will meet at 16:45UK time, and broader talks will continue after that.

The two are expected to discuss how to strengthen bilateral relations, regional matters, and developments in the Middle East.

Cyprus’ humanitarian corridor to Gaza dubbed ‘Amalthea’ as well as the evacuation scheme ‘Estia’ are also matters on the agenda.

Christodoulides will also be briefing Starmer over Med9 and developments on the Cyprus problem, ahead of the upcoming dinner on October 15 with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar and UNSG Antonio Guterres.

The President will be accompanied by Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Letymbiotis, Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna and director of the President’s diplomatic office Doros Venezis.

Christodoulides will then depart to New York.
