Patriots Breakout Keion White Pays Price For Impactful Penalties

Patriots breakout defensive end Keion White’s wallet took a hit Saturday.

White had a rough third quarter in New England’s loss against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday. The 25-year-old was called for a horse-collar tackle and a roughing the passer penalty that put the defense in a bind. The NFL fined the pass rusher for those personal fouls with each one costing White 9,836.

It was a tough Week 5 result for White, but he told NESN.com’s Sean McGuire that he didn’t have any plan to change his mindset on the field.

“As long as I’m running to the ball, being aggressive, yeah, you’re going to get penalties,” White told McGuire. “But I’m not going to compromise the style of player that I am. Obviously, the style player I am, the league is trending towards a less aggressive league. I don’t care. I’m gonna still be a more old-school, heavy hitter. You take the fines when they come, but you just keep playing.

“Because I feel like, personally, if I stop playing as fast and stop playing as aggressively, then I’m not going to be as dominant of a player.”

White didn’t receive the fines when he spoke to NESN.com, but he seemed content with taking fines and remaining a dominant player on the field. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo didn’t address the penalties, and it will probably be business as usual this Sunday.

The loss of $19,672 still isn’t the greatest thing for a second-round pick.
