Man ‘murdered’ at home was paedophile recently spared jail for attacking girl
A man found dead in a flat in what is being treated as suspected murder was a known sex offender who recently dodged a jail sentence for molesting a young girl.
Martin Forgie, 36, was discovered dead at an address in Aberdeenshire on Wednesday.
A 44-year-old man has been charged in connection with his death.
It has now emerged that Forgie appeared in court earlier this year where he admitted sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at Aberdeen’s St Nicholas shopping centre.
The youngster had ben filming a TikTok with a friend when she was groped by Forgie, who later claimed to have been drunk at the time.
He pleaded guilty to sexual assault and an additional charge of assault in relation to a bystander who was kicked when they tried to intervene.
Rather than sending him to prison, the judge told Forgie it would do nothing to address his problems with alcohol.
She instead imposed a community payback order with supervision for three years.
Forgie was also ordered to take part in a domestic abuse programme and placed on the sex offenders register for three years.
His family has been informed of his death and are being supported by specialist officers.
A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
Mr Forgie was from Maud, Aberdeenshire.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, his family said: ‘Martin was a much-loved son, brother, father, nephew, grandson and uncle. He will be greatly missed.
‘We ask for our privacy as a family to be respected at this difficult time.’
Detective Inspector Rory Campbell said: ‘Our thoughts remain with Mr Forgie’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
‘Officers will remain in the area while enquiries are carried out.’
