South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt names THIS Indian batter as ‘favourite player’, video goes viral – WATCH
New Delhi: South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt was pleasantly surprised when she got a chance to sign an old photo of herself with Virat Kohli. The ICC on Friday uploaded a video, titled “A glimpse into the past” during the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, in which Wolvaardt was seen signing a photo of herself with Kohli, which was taken in January 2020.
Four and a half years ago, Wolvaardt had the opportunity to pose for a picture with Kohli. She captioned the picture, “Anything for the fans”. In the ICC video, 25-year-old Wolvaardt was also seen calling Kohli her “favourite player”. Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Marizanne Kapp and Sophie Ecclestone also appeared in the video.

Wolvaart has performed brilliantly in the ongoing tournament so far. In three matches, she has scored 141 runs at an average of 70.50 and a strike rate of 116.52. She started her campaign with an unbeaten 59-run innings, helping the Proteas beat the West Indies by 10 wickets.
She scored 42 against Heather Knight’s England in challenging conditions at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. But her innings went in vain as the Proteas lost the match by seven wickets. Wolvaardt then persisted and scored 40 as South Africa beat Scotland by 80 runs in their third match.
Wolvaardt’s women’s team are currently second in the table with four points and a net run rate of 1.527, having won two out of three matches. Their last group match is against Nigar Sultana Joty’s Bangladesh on Saturday, October 12 at the Dubai International Stadium.
Meanwhile, Wolvaardt is on the verge of making history. She is just 94 runs away from becoming the first South African batsman to score 2000 runs in women’s T20 internationals. In 75 matches, she has scored 1906 runs at an average of 36.65 and a strike rate of 115.51.
