Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25: ‘Virat and Rohit are not in their prime’, Sanjay Manjrekar makes strange remarks
New Delhi: Former Indin cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has given a big warning to Team India ahead of the 5-match Test series against Australia. The Indian team will leave for Australia in November after playing a 3-match Test series against New Zealand. Australia is the current World Test Champion, but India is also seen as a strong contender for this title. Australia has not won any Test series against India since the 2014-15 season and India will try to defeat them this time too.
India will be eyeing a third consecutive Test series win in Australia, but Sanjay Manjrekar believes that things will not be easy for Rohit Sharma and company. Former cricketer-turned-commentator Manjrekar described Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as the weak link of the team and said that both these veteran batsmen are no longer in their form. Talking about youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, Sanjay Manjrekar said that both of them have to take advantage of the opportunity. After this, he described Rishabh Pant as the only player in the Indian team who is in his form at the moment.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not in their best form:
“It might be a tough one. Virat and Rohit, both are not in their prime, they are not at the peak of their powers to be fair and others like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubhman Gill have to rise to the occasion. Rishabh Pant is the only one that I feel is in his prime and a very important player,” Manjrekar said while speaking on SportifyWithPRG.
Indian bowling is stable:
Regarding India’s bowling, Manjrekar said that this department looks completely organized. On the other hand, the Australian team does not have the shine that it used to have earlier. The Indian team is still quite stable, but as far as the Kangaroo team is concerned, that team does not have the same thing that it used to have earlier. Earlier they used to look and play like champions, but now it is not like that. Let us tell you that the 5-match Test series between India and Australia will start from November 22 and the first match will be played in Perth. The second Test will be played at the Adelaide Oval from December 6 and it will be day-night. The third match will be played at the Gabba from December 14 while the fourth will be the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The series will conclude with the New Year Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 3.
