These ADB crinkles now come in ube flavor

MANILA, Philippines – The famous crinkles from ADB have just gotten an ube-lievable upgrade in the form of a new ube flavor by Quezon City bakery Crumbs and Grubs!

But first — what’s the deal with these cult-favorite ADB crinkles, which have been making waves for over two decades? Originally created by the former executive chef of the Asian Development Bank, these crinkles were once a well-kept secret and available only at the ADB cafeteria. If you weren’t an ADB employee, you had to be pretty lucky (or have connections) to get your hands on them.

Crumbs and Grubs partnered with the same chef to bring these classic cookies to the masses while keeping the original recipe and tweaking it with twists.

Imagine a fudgy, chewy crinkle with a slightly crispy outer shell, bearing a soft and gooey center packed with real ube halaya. The moment I took a bite, I just knew it was a simple but satisfying ube treat.

Crumbs and Grubs’ newest flavor screams ube, but not too loudly; I got the initial rich ube hit right away, but the overall cookie wasn’t too sweet nor too nutty. The chocolate didn’t overpower it; the balance of both flavors was on point, and so was the texture.

Funnily enough, the ube crinkles weren’t even part of the SME’s original plan!

“This is the very first time the ube crinkles are being made and introduced. It started with a simple request from a friend who was flying out to London. She loved the original crinkles and asked if there’s any way to order ube crinkles. We discussed it, and the team went to test several recipes and decided to sell right away,” Crumbs and Grubs told Rappler.

“They were an instant hit the first week they were sold.”

The ube crinkles are available to order on Crumbs and Grubs’ website, with a pre-order dispatch schedule on October 18, November 16, and December 14.

Twenty-four pieces of Ube Crinkles cost P1,100. The OG Crinkles — which are just as good — cost P1,100 for 24 pieces. The large version costs P900 for 12 pieces.

Crumbs and Grubs first rose to Instagram fame after its bestselling strawberry-filled croissants took off during the pandemic in 2021. They are also known for seasonal strawberry crumble pie and homemade burrata.
