Brennan Johnson’s stats for Wales as Spurs star makes it seven goals in seven games
Brennan Johnson took his impressive form at club level to the international stage on Friday, making a decisive contribution to Wales against Iceland despite playing just 45 minutes.
Johnson cannot stop scoring
Up until a month ago, the criticism surrounding Johnson was about his lack of effectiveness in the final third, with some questioning whether he has the composure to produce goals and assists consistently.
The 23-year-old has well and truly answered those critics, and has looked unstoppable in front of goal for Tottenham over the past six matches.
Johnson found the back of the net yet again on Friday, opening the scoring for Wales in Reykjavik with a tap-in from close range.
Impressive numbers
Even though Johnson only played 45 minutes before being taken off at the interval by manager Craig Bellamy, the Tottenham man certainly left his mark on the game.
According to Fotmob, the winger, who started on the right of a front three, had two shorts on target, created two chances and made three passes into the final third.
Fotmob gave Johnson a rating of 7.3 out of 10, and the winger clocked up 22 total touches of the ball, with five of those coming in the opposition penalty area.
Johnson was only dispossessed once in the entire 45 minutes, and had a 100 per cent shot and cross accuracy, albeit with just two shots and one cross.
WhoScored revealed that the Spurs star had a pass completion rate of 82.1 per cent and they handed him a match rating of 6.53 out of 10.
Injury concern?
Spurs fans will be worried to learn that Johnson was taken off at the half-time interval by Bellamy. However, the Wales boss told BBC Wales reporter Dafydd Pritchard that the wide-man was only withdrawn as a ‘precaution’.
With Johnson suspended for the clash against Montenegro on Monday, he will play no further part for the Dragons during the international break.
