NYC Department of Education served with subpoenas in Banks probe: report

0

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Reports indicate the investigation into outgoing New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks has resulted in the city's Department of Education headquarters being served with a round of subpoenas.

First reported by Politico, a spokesman for the Department of Education did not deny the report to PIX11 News but would not comment about the documents federal authorities were seeking.

"[New York City Public Schools] does not comment on ongoing investigations," spokesman Nathaniel Styer said.

Banks had his home raided and electronics seized by the FBI more than a month ago before being forced into early retirement by the mayor.

His brother Phil Banks, deputy mayor for public safety, also just resigned.

The FBI probe into the Banks family appears to extend to their brother Terence Banks and if he was able to secure lucrative contacts from the city on behalf of clients he consulted with.
