'Cheating': Trump rages that 'unAmerican' Harris is behind feds' voting rights lawsuit

0

Former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social platform on Friday evening to rage against a new federal lawsuit accusing Virginia of an 11th-hour purge of voter registrations — and accuse Vice President Kamala Harris of "cheating."

"Kamala Harris and the Department of Justice have once again launched an unconstitutional and illegal attack on America’s Democracy," wrote Trump. "This time, Kamala Harris, who is losing in the Polls, is trying to flood our Elections with NON-CITIZENS - These votes are ILLEGAL! Governor Glenn Youngkin, who is doing an incredible job, was correct in removing non-citizens from the voter rolls, a Law that was actually passed by then Democrat Governor Tim Kaine. Now Kamala, because we are doing so well in Virginia, wants to put those non-citizens back on the voter rolls, even though they aren’t allowed to vote."

"The only reason for this is CHEATING," Trump continued. "This is unAmerican and, with less than 30 days until the Election, it’s clear-cut ELECTION INTERFERENCE. Kamala Harris can’t win fair-and-square, so she is doing everything she can to undermine Honest and Fair Elections. We must protect American Voters, and protect America’s Democracy!"

The lawsuit, brought by the civil rights division of the Justice Department, has nothing to do with Harris. It concerns the National Voter Registration Act, which has a provision barring the purge of voter rolls sooner than 90 days before a federal election, known as the "Quiet Period," on the grounds that it does not give voters who were mistakenly removed enough time to notice and correct the error.

A similar case was already brought against Alabama last month.

Some states have adopted policies like this in response to unfounded GOP allegations that non-citizens are being registered to vote in large numbers. This is already illegal, and generally easy to spot when it does occur. Trump and the GOP have filed their own litigation challenging the integrity of voter rolls in some battleground states, sometimes based on already debunked data.
