Kamala Harris Gets Another Vogue Cover

With three weeks to go until the election, Kamala Harris went on a media blitz this week, which included a stop at Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, a sit-down with Howard Stern, and an in-depth interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes. To close it out, she has Anna Wintour’s official seal of approval. On Friday, Vogue featured the vice-president, photographed by Annie Leibovitz, as its digital cover star. Harris is pictured in her home, stoic in an armchair, wearing a Gabriela Hearst suit and looking vaguely presidential. That’s a departure from her previous Vogue cover, in which she wore Converse, stirring up quite a controversy.

The profile, by Nathan Heller, doesn’t cover much new ground, giving Harris an opportunity to reiterate her stance on Gaza (she believes in “Israel’s right to defend itself” as well as Palestinians’ “right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination,” but she hopes to create “incentives” for de-escalation). She also retold the cute story of the day she found out Joe Biden was dropping out of the race. When she tried to call her husband, Doug Emhoff, to let him know the president had endorsed her candidacy, she couldn’t get through. He was apparently busy in a SoulCycle class with a buddy.

The cover doesn’t come as much of a surprise, given that Wintour co-hosted a fundraiser for the Harris campaign earlier this year. Over Labor Day weekend, East Coast Democrats mingled at Tory Burch’s house in the Hamptons. According to Bloomberg, ticket prices ranged from $2,500 to $50,000. Say what you want about Anna Wintour, but that woman knows how to raise money for a cause she believes in.
