Lawrence and Manhattan food pantries battle to block hunger
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Two Kansas food pantries will be battling to secure a $10,000 prize donated by sponsors.
Starting Oct. 18 until Oct. 28, Just Food of Lawrence and the Flint Hills Breadbasket of Manhattan (FHBB) will face off for "Block Hunger", a friendly competition to see who can collect the most food. Whichever food bank collects the most food 'pound-for-pound' will win the grand prize.
According to a press release from the FHBB, The Trust Company, and an anonymous donor each contributed $2,500 with Dillons matching with $5,000.
FHBB said monetary donations are also encouraged with each dollar counting as one pound of food.
"Support your favorite team by donating to your local food pantry and help both food banks in their mission to fight food insecurity in their communities," the FHBB wrote in the press release.
