Brothers embark on Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight

0

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two brothers from the Town of Tonawanda will be on this weekend's Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight.

83-year-old Fred Warnick and his 89-year-old brother Don are making the trip together to the nation's capital.

"He's been my best friend forever," Fred explained.

"It's not like he's my brother. He's just my best friend," added Don.

There isn't much the brothers haven't done together.

"They've done everything from work together, Bills games, weekends, Vietnam together, they still go to breakfast together," said Fred's daughter Michelle Wing.

They were stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1969. "We entertained ourselves. Let's say that. You had to."

Don and Fred said they plan to exchange war stories this weekend with fellow veterans. They are one of two pairs of brothers who will be aboard Honor Flight. The nonprofit takes veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the war momuments in their honor.

"That really just is the icing on the cake of their relationship," said Michelle.

"We had been doing things together for so long, it is just another nice piece of our life," added Don.

The flight is scheduled to return to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport on Sunday at 7:45 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to welcome home the vets at the airport.
