Duke Recruiting: The Boozers Are Blue Devils!
As Jon Scheyer’s epic recruiting roll continues
Duke won a major recruiting war on Friday as the Boozer twins, Carlos and Cayden, chose the Blue Devils over Miami. Here’s their commitment video.
Both are major prospects. Cameron is generally considered no worse than the second-best recruit in his class and he’s quite advanced for a 17-year-old. He has some natural advantages at 6-9 and 235 lbs. but he’s also naturally gained from being his father’s son.
Carlos, who starred at Duke, was a two-time NBA All-Star and he had a long and outstanding career. At Duke he helped the Blue Devils win the 2001 national championship.
As for Cayden, at 6-4 (or 6-3 depending on where you read), he’s obviously smaller than his brother. He has a superb court sense though and looks like he could develop into an elite point guard. We’ve really been impressed with him on the videos we’ve seen.
A great point guard can do things that no other player on the court can do and by great we don’t mean physical talent. We’re talking about intellect.
The smartest point guard we’ve ever seen at Duke was Tyus Jones. Bobby Hurley and Jon Scheyer were not far behind.
And consider a guy like Cassius Winston, who was a superb leader at Michigan State. He was not lavishly talented but he could bend a team to his will and direct it like few college point guards have ever done.
We’re not putting young Boozer in that class yet, but could he elevate a team?
Yes. We think he has great potential.
We’ll have more later.
