THIS star cricketer spent few months in jail, is now married to a top lawyer and former TV actress

It’s not unusual for TV or movie actresses to fall in love with cricketers. The same is the case in Pakistan as well where recently Shoaib Malik got married for the third time, after his divorce with Sania Mirza, to Pakistan TV actress Sana Javed.

But what is unusual is a lawyer falling in love with a convict in jail. This is the unusual love story of Pakistan left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir.

The supremely talented pacer was sentenced to jail in the United Kingdom after being embroiled in spot-fixing scandal back in 2010. According to Jang newspaper, Amir fell in love with his own lawyer – Narjis Khatun (now Narjis Amir). Narjis was born in the United Kingdom but is said to be fluent in Punjabi and English, was introduced on the legal team by the Pakistan Cricket Board when the spot-fixing scandal first erupted in England.

Narjis also revealed her acting talents in popular TV shows like ‘Barson Baad’ and ‘Mil Ke Bhi Hum Na Mil Sakay’.

The couple tied the knot in 2016 and are now proud parents of three daughters. Besides her acting pursuits, Narjis is also a lawyer by profession. Interestingly, their love story began during a challenging time when Amir faced allegations of spot-fixing and ball-tampering in 2011.

“I felt it was the right time for me to get into a relationship,” Amir had told Pakistan’s ‘The Express Tribune’ newspaper in an earlier interview. “One has to get a life partner at some stage of life, so I decided to do it now. I didn’t feel the need to wait any longer.”

It was only after retiring from Test cricket that Amir was planning to get a British passport and settle in Britain. Amir married Narjis, a British national, in September 2016. Amir was part of the Pakistan team that won the 2009 World T20 Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy title. At the time when he was involved in the spot-fixing controversy, he was just 18 years old.

He also faced a ban from 2010 to 2015 on charges of spot-fixing. In 2011, captain Salman Butt, Amir and Mohammad Asif were suspended for five years by the ICC after being found guilty of fixing on the England tour.

Amit and Narjis are currently happily married and together they have three daughters, Minsa Amir (born 2017), Zoya Amir (born 2020) and Ayra Amir (born 2022).
