WTC Points Table: Pakistan slump to ninth place after defeat to England in Multan

Pakistan suffered a humiliating defeat by an innings and 47 runs against England in Multan on Friday. After the visitors posted a humongous total of 823/7 and took a 267-run lead thanks to a triple century from Harry Brook and a double century from Joe Root on the fourth day, the pressure was on Pakistan to survive and take the match to a draw.

However, the Pakistan batters crumbled against the England bowlers on fourth and slumped to 152/6 before the end of the day. With Pakistan still trailing by 115 runs, it was now up to Salman Ali Agha and Aamir Jamal to at least get Pakistan into the lead.

However, they weren’t able to fulfill the task at hand as Agha departed for 63 before Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah also lost their wickets cheaply. With their final batter Abrar Ahmed admitted in the hospital due to high fever, the match was declared to be over as Pakistan were bowled out for 220.

This defeat means that skipper Shan Masood continues to remain winless since getting appointed as the Test skipper back in November, 2023. The loss also saw Pakistan dropped to the botom-last place on the World Test Championship (WTC) table with only 16 points from 8 games and a PCT of 16.67.

The second Test of the 3-match series between Pakistan and England will also be played in Multan and it will commence from October 15.
