You’ve never seen Jude Law like this. The handsome British two-time Academy Award nominee puts on a dramatic hairline and a mustache to play a harried FBI agent investigating a neo-Nazi group in the ‘80s in the new historical crime thriller “The Order,” which got a new trailer on Thursday.

Here’s the official logline for the film, which comes out in theaters this winter from Vertical: “Based on a true story, an alarming surge in violent bombings and bank robberies in the Pacific Northwest leads a weathered FBI agent into a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a charismatic domestic terrorist plotting to overthrow the US government.” Emmy nominee Nicholas Hoult stars as Bob Mathews (no relation), founder of the Order, the titular white supremacist group that was responsible for a harrowing crime spree between 1983 and 1984. The cast also includes Tye Sheridan, Jurnee Smollett, Odessa Young, Alison Oliver, and Marc Maron.

The film is directed by Justin Kurzel (“Macbeth”) and written by Academy Award nominee Zach Baylin (“King Richard”). It’s based on the 1989 nonfiction book “The Silent Brotherhood” by Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in August, where it competed for the Golden Lion. It’s currently sitting at an 86% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

During a press conference at the festival, Law said the film is “sadly” relevant to America’s contemporary political landscape.  “It felt like a piece of work that needed to be made now,” he said, according to Deadline

“I think we live at a time now that was reflected in the film, where there is division, and there’s a lot of conversation about the future and about ideologies. The film was about an ideology that’s incredibly dangerous and how it can quickly take seed… I think that’s a timeless thing, not only in America, but in Australia too,” said Kurzel, who is Australian.

“The Order” will open in theaters on Dec. 6.
