Who could replace interim NYPD Commissioner Donlon if he resigns?

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Interim NYPD Commissioner Tom Donlon is expected to resign following a string of high-profile exits from City Hall over the last month, sources told PIX11 News on Thursday.

Donlon, a former FBI official, had his home raided by federal authorities within days of serving in his new post. He said they seized materials that came into his possession two decades ago and are unrelated to his NYPD work.

Donlon replaced former NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, who stepped down back in September.

Mayor Eric Adams' office is reviewing several prospects for his fourth NYPD commissioner, including Donlon, the mayor’s spokesperson, Fabien Levy, told PIX11 News.

Who could replace interim NYPD Commissioner Donlon if he steps down?

Former First Deputy NYPD Commissioner Benjamin Tucker and current Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch could be tapped to take over the role, sources said.

A day before First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright resigned, Tisch was on PIX11 Morning News with Adams. She was asked if she would replace Wright.

"I’ve been very clear that being the commissioner of the Department of Sanitation is my dream job," Tisch said. "Lots of people think that that’s shocking, but that’s been my dream."
