‘Kamala Harris built this’: J.D. Vance cracks joke after woman falls and screams on stage

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) was caught off guard at a town hall Thursday night after a woman’s chair apparently broke behind him on stage, prompting her to scream and Vance to quip to laughter in the crowd: “Kamala Harris built this.”

The tense moment began as Vance was listening to a question from an audience member at a town hall in Greensboro, North Carolina, when suddenly a woman screamed behind the Republican vice presidential nominee.

Vance immediately jumped from his seat while supporters behind him turned to face the commotion.

“Are we ok?” he asked as he approached the woman just steps away from him about six minutes into the event. When it appeared the woman – who seemed confused but standing – was unharmed, Vance brought levity to her plight.

“Kamala Harris built this platform behind us, that’s what happened,” he joked as the crowd of supporters erupted in applause and laughter.

Vance appeared at the town hall in the critical battleground state alongside former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, who offered her own one-liner on the situation.

“You can have my chair if you want,” Patrick said, to more laughs.
