New Delhi: Ratan Tata’s demise has prompted an outpouring of tributes and condolences from global leaders, celebrating his visionary leadership, philanthropic efforts, and enduring impact on international relations. Tata, the former chairman of Tata Group and Tata Sons, passed away on October 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of business excellence and philanthropy.

In a candid interview with CNN, Industrialist Ratan Tata, known for his reserved nature, he opened up about his love life. Tata, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86 in Mumbai, disclosed that he had fallen in love and almost married four times.

“When you asked whether I’d ever been in love, I came seriously close to getting married four times and each time it got close to there and I guess I backed off in fear of one reason or another,” Tata replied to CNN.

The Industrialist revealed that one of his most significant relationships happened while he was working in the US. He recounted that he had intended to marry an American woman, but their plans were disrupted by global events.

During the interview, he stated, “Well, you know one was probably the most serious was when I was working in the U.S. and the only reason we didn’t get married was that I came back to India and she was to follow me… and that was the year of the, if you like, the Sino-Indian conflict and in true American fashion this conflict in the Himalayas, in the snowy, uninhabited part of the Himalayas was seen in the United States as a major war between India and China and so, she didn’t come and finally got married in the US thereafter.”

Under his leadership, Tata Group expanded globally, acquiring iconic brands like Jaguar Land Rover and Tetley. His commitment to innovation and sustainability inspired a new generation of entrepreneurs.
