Police search for suspect accused of attacking woman, while baby watches
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Oklahoma City Police are looking for a suspect involved in an assault at a convenience store downtown.
The assault happened September 20 at the 7-Eleven on W Reno Ave.
Police released surveillance video of the altercation, you can see a woman walk into the store, holding a baby.
There's no audio in the video, but police say the woman was yelling and cussing at the clerk because the gas pump wasn't working.
Another woman who is seen standing in line told the suspect to be respectful to the worker.
In the video, you can see the suspect put her baby on the ground, before she picks up a plastic shopping basket and hits the victim in the head several times.
"You see things every day in this job that can surprise you when somebody's just holding a baby and setting the baby down to grab a handheld shopping basket to strike somebody in the head with it, you don't see that every day," said MSgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department,.
In the video, you can also see the assistant manager of the store, who is named a witness in the report, pick the child up off the ground to get her out of harm's way.
The suspect eventually grabs her baby, walks out and drives away in a dark-colored SUV.
"The victim was not seriously injured, but obviously this was an unprovoked attack and this is something that we're going to investigate and we want to get this person identified," said MSgt. Knight.
The victim told police she would like to press charges.
