'I saw smoke everywhere': One injured in Midwest City apartment fire

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KFOR) - Terrell Tisdale had an alarming wakeup call Thursday morning.

“Kind of an immediate panic,” said Tisdale. “I have small kids and I do know that these are older apartments… I came outside and I saw smoke everywhere."

Tisdale saw that a nearby unit at the Calico Corners Apartments in Midwest City caught on fire around 6 a.m. Knowing there was a woman inside, Tisdale told KFOR his neighbor tried to help.

"He grabbed the fire extinguisher that we normally have sitting out here and he tried to get into the apartment but wasn't able to,” said Tisdale.

Thankfully, firefighters were already on their way.

"When they got into the apartment, they noticed there was a resident right there on the floor,” said Midwest City Fire Chief Bert Norton.

Chief Norton said the woman was alert. She was taken to the hospital.

"We can tell she's probably got some smoke inhalation,” said Chief Norton.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
