Player says Tottenham will forever be his home despite leaving this year
Ex-Spurs academy graduate, Japhet Tanganga, has opened up on the difficulty of leaving Tottenham, three months on from his free transfer to Millwall.
Tanganga’s Spurs career was interrupted through injuries
Japhet Tanganga’s Tottenham debut came as a surprise to many when Jose Mourinho surprisingly threw the academy star into the starting eleven to face Liverpool, with an impressive display causing many to take note of the defender.
However, after a bright start, Tanganga’s Tottenham career slowly fizzled out due to a plethora of injuries that not only troubled the defenders time at Spurs but also his loan moves.
The 25-year-old centre-back missed 52 games since making his debut in Lilywhite although found his best run of fitness on loan at Championship side Millwall. He joined The Lions permanently this summer after the conclusion of his Spurs contract. (BBC Sport)
Tanganga has described his Spurs departure as ‘difficult’
Japhet Tanganga has spoken to Gianluca Di Marzio about his exit from his boyhood club, Tottenham, this summer, explaining he still supports the Lilywhites.
He said: “Tottenham will forever remain my first home and have a special place in my heart. I had accepted that I was going to leave, but the day of the farewell was still difficult.
“You don’t easily part from a love like that. And, now I continue to follow them, I cheer for my former teammates, and I know that sooner or later they will return to a final and win it, they deserve it.”
Spurs let go of a number of players this summer
Tanganga was just one of five players to not see his Tottenham deal renewed this summer as Ange Postecoglou oversaw a summer of change.
Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon and Tanguy Ndombele were among the names to be released by Tottenham. Tanganga himself chose to make his stay with Millwall permanent after an impressive 18-game-long loan spell with the Lions. (TransferMarkt)
Another four players could leave Spurs this summer at the end of their deals with Fraser Forster, Alfie Whiteman, Ben Davies and Sergio Reguilon all out of contract. (TransferMarkt)
