'Never occurred to me': J.D. Vance says why he thinks Cheneys endorsing Harris 'dangerous'
Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) on Monday floated the possibility that Vice President Kamala Harris would make former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) her defense secretary should she be elected next month.
Writing on X, Vance responded to a post from commentator Saagar Enjeti, who expressed fear that Harris would appoint Cheney to run the Pentagon in exchange for her endorsement.
"This had never occurred to me but he's exactly right," he wrote. "What's even more dangerous? Cheney would have political cover from the left. If you want the most unhinged member of the Cheney family declaring new wars every other month, vote for Kamala."
Harris has said that she would bring a Republican into her cabinet, although she has not specified which one or in what role.

Additionally, Cheney has long made clear that she has fundamental disagreements with Harris and is endorsing the Democrat primarily because she fears what former President Donald Trump could do should he win a second term.
Cheney was the co-chair of the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th Capitol attacks and signed off on a final report recommending criminal charges against the twice-impeached former president who is running on the top of Vance's ticket.
