The missus

Root met Carrie at popular Headingley bar, The Arc through mutual friends.

She worked as a bar manager, when their paths crossed.

In 2014, the blonde Yorkshire lass and Root went public with their romance on social media.

Two years later, they shared the happy news of an engagement, as their love continued to blossom.

On December 1, 2018 they said their ‘I do’s’ in front of friends and family at a traditional wedding ceremony in Sheffield.

They have two children together, including son Alfred (born in 2017) and daughter Isabella (born 2020).

Root has previously spoken about the difficulties of juggling family life as a cricketer, often spending time apart when he goes on Tests abroad.

However, Carrie is often seen cheering him on from the stands alongside the Barmy Army, as one of the game’s most supportive Wags.

Golf days out

He is a regular at the Alfred Dunhill pro-am tournament, alongside ex-cricketers Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen, as well as Sun columnist Piers Morgan.

He told RSNG: “I haven’t really been playing golf for a huge amount of time, to be honest, but there are clearly similarities.

“It wasn’t until I was in my late teens that I picked up a golf club properly and started playing regularly.

“Since then I haven’t looked back and now I am on the golf course or the driving range as much as I possibly can.

“With it being a slightly similar game in the way that it’s hand-eye coordination works, it’s actually a very useful way of keeping that motion going away from cricket.”
