10/10/2024: Cool and blustery Thursday

0

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:

Brighter and dry today - but being caught between a departing series of storm systems along the coast and high pressure over the Great Lakes will promote breezy, at times blustery conditions!

Because the wind is blowing from the northwest, temperatures will struggle to warm all that much. Expect highs only in the 50's for most.

Tonight, with clearing skies and winds easing up, temperatures will fall into the 30's across the region!

Frost is possible for most areas outside of the Tri-Cities and the Hudson Valley. Areas highlighted below are under a Frost Advisory from midnight to 9 AM Friday. Bring potted plants inside if you want to keep them going. Gardeners can try covering plants in the ground with a tarp or bedsheet - this can be just enough to prevent frost damage. The growing season is over in the Adirondacks and northern Vermont - while they will be cold enough for a frost, advisories are no longer issued for these locations.

After the chilly start, temperatures warm comfortably into the 60's by the afternoon - even the high terrain will have a nice, seasonable feel for the second half of the day.

Saturday features a more mild start and slightly warmer afternoon highs - though winds will ramp up once again. Showers return along with falling temperatures for Sunday.

Gusty conditions and cooler temperatures means that the mountaintops will likely pick up some snowfall on Monday! Most have only a cold rain to contend with. We stay cool, cloudy, and somewhat unsettled into the middle of next week.
