Dominic Solanke receives England boost thanks to Harry Kane news

0

Dominic Solanke may have just received a boost to his chances of getting some minutes for England this evening after the latest update on Three Lions captain, Harry Kane.

Solanke called up for England

Dominic Solanke was called up to the senior England squad by Lee Carsley for the first time in seven years this week following his big-money move to Tottenham in the summer.

The last time Solanke pulled on the Three Lions shirt, he was a young up-and-comer at Liverpool. Since then, the striker has rebuilt his career at Bournemouth by scoring and assisting over 100 goals in 277 games (TransferMarkt).

However, Solanke has a tough task actually getting minutes for his country this month, with England captain, Harry Kane, and Euro 2024 hero, Ollie Watkins, ahead of him in the pecking order.

Harry Kane injury gives Solanke a boost

It has already been announced that John Stones will wear the captain’s armband for the first time this evening for England against Greece (SkySports).

This is because Harry Kane arrived at the England camp nursing a small knock picked up during his last match for Bayern Munich. As such, he will start the Nations League game on the bench.

Logic would dictate that, unless Carsley plays someone like Jude Bellingham in a false nine role, one of Solanke or Watkins will lead the line from the start.

Will Solanke get some minutes?

Even if Solanke doesn’t get the nod to start the match, he seems likely to get a cameo off the bench. I can’t imagine Carsley will risk Harry Kane at all unless England are behind.

Solanke was also selected to accompany the England manager for the press conference this week, which would tend to suggest that he has some part to play in the games.
