"The Apprentice," a movie depicting a young former President Donald Trump's relationship with notorious mafia attorney Roy Cohn, is releasing to theaters this week despite efforts by Trump's lawyers to stop it from seeing the light of day.

In an interview with NPR entitled "'The Apprentice' director talks about the film Donald Trump doesn't want you to see", "Apprentice" director Ali Abbasi revealed how screenwriter Gabriel Sherman's recruited him to work on the project by asking him, "You're so good with monsters and trolls... Do you want to make a movie about Donald Trump?"

As NPR notes, Abbasi's history of film projects includes a lot of horror-related material in movies such as "Shelley" and "Holy Spider."

Abbasi also tells NPR that he hopes the movie will educate viewers more about Roy Cohn, whom he sees as something of a link to the kind of hard-right populism that Trump has promoted for the last eight years.

The movie will show Cohn emphasizing to Trump the importance of winning at all costs, no matter the consequences that come to others.

"There is no right and wrong," Cohn tells Trump at one point in the movie. "There is no morality. There is no truth with a capital T. It's a construct. It's a fiction. It's manmade. None of it matters except winning."

"The Apprentice" releases to theaters on Friday, October 11.
