Victory on the road for U15s against St Leonards

0

St Leonard’s / Madras U15 33 – 46 Linlithgow U15

We had a great location for our first bus trip of the season – playing across the road from the 17th green and old course hotel at St Andrews.

The mood was high on the trip up with DJ Singh in full force, however DJ Armour was bitterly disappointed with the lack of squad  singing participation!

We had a strong start to the first half with 4 unanswered tries. After good recycling Jason crashed over to score, a great break from our 22 (traversing  the pitch from side to side a few times) led to Aaron touching down in the corner, and after another good period of direct backline running Callum offloaded to Murray to score in the corner, closely followed by a similar move with Finlay finishing off (converted by Eric) 22-0

The boys had managed to work out their strengths against the opposition and were using it!! Euan was troubling the defence with some very jinky running.

SLM responded with 2 tries before Aaron made another fantastic break to finish off in style (27-12).

We have been punished by the opposition this season on quick penalties but we managed to bring that into our own game with Eric and Finlay linking up putting Callum over in the corner (32-12).

We have however also been punished by conceding interception tries and we did it again(!) and all of a sudden there was a complacency in the Reds and before we new it the score was reduced 32-26. If SLM had scored again the momentum may well have been with them for the rest of the game.

The boys were asked if they wanted to win – and to concentrate and reorganise.

And to be fair they did……we put pressure on the SLM line and another quick penalty  put Louis over in the corner and Jamie surged through for another score. Euan converted both (46-26).

SLM finished the game off with a well taken try after repeated high Linlithgow tackling. Final score 46-33.

Another good game for player development, playing time and problem solving –  it was a buoyant bus home as we move towards a rest for half-term! Thank-you for our tremendous travelling parental support and James and Will who were injured but still travelled.

Squad: Ali, Arran, Arron, Callum, Conor, Ethan, Euan, Eric, Fergus, Finlay, Jamie, Louis, Matthew, Jason, Murray, Noah, Robbie, Sam, Zack.
