‘God of cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar got emotional after meeting Ratan Tata, Mumbai maestro’s post goes viral
India cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar is not one who wears his emotions on his sleeve. However, a chance meeting with famous Indian industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata made the ‘God of cricket’ Tendulkar emotional.
A day after Ratan Tata passed away in Mumbai at the age of 86, Tendulkar’s picture on social media platform Instagram is going viral on social media. Tata was undergoing treatment at a Mumbai hospital and had been admitted in the ICU since Monday, passed away late on Wednesday night.
Earlier this year in May, Ratan Tata shared a heartwarming meeting with the Mumbai maestro Sachin Tendulkar. Former India captain took to social media to share a picture of their meeting, describing a conversation which ranged from shared passions for automobiles, wildlife conservation, animal welfare, and philanthropy.
“Last Sunday was memorable, as I had the opportunity to spend time with Mr. Tata,” Tendulkar wrote in his Instagram caption post. “We shared stories and insights about our mutual love for automobiles, our commitment to giving back to society, passion for wildlife conservation, and affection for our furry friends. Conversations like these are invaluable and remind us of the joy and impact our passions can bring to our lives. It’s a day I will remember with a smile always.”

Tata, who was a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan – India’s second-highest civilian honour, will be remembered for his visionary leadership and commitment to social good. Tata Group Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran confirmed the news of Tata’s passing, calling him ‘a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation’.
“To me, he was a mentor, guide, and friend. He inspired by example,” Chandrasekaran said. “With an unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation, the Tata Group under his stewardship expanded its global footprint while always remaining true to its moral compass.”
Tata Group played a major role in development of plenty of top Indian cricketers. Several top cricketers were directly associated with Tata Group companies like former India wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer was supported by Tata Motors, while Air India played a key role in the careers of players like Mohinder Amarnath, Sanjay Manjrekar, Robin Uthappa and VVS Laxman. Indian Airlines, also linked to the Tata Group, became a platform for numerous players, including Javagal Srinath, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Mohammed Kaif.
It is worth mentioning that cricketers like Ajit Agarkar (Tata Steel) and Rusi Surti (IHCL, or Indian Hotels Company Limited) were also part of the Tata ecosystem. More recently, players like Shardul Thakur (Tata Power) and Jayant Yadav (Air India) have benefited from Tata Group’s long-standing support of cricket.
