Don't text and...walk? UBC study looks at distracted pedestrian behaviour in traffic

Study co-author Gabriel Lanzaro used traffic cameras to analyze how people who were texting crossed streets and interacted with vehicle traffic. He found that "distracted walking" could increase the severity of traffic interactions by up to 45 per cent.
