Kingston man arrested after crash with stolen car

KINGSTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police announced that a Kingston man was arrested on October 3 after a crash on Route 28. Kevin Johnson, 26, is facing numerous charges.

On Thursday around 7:56 a.m., state police responded to the scene of a two-car crash on Route 28 in Kingston involving a 2005 Mercedes and a 2021 Ford. Further investigation revealed that the Mercedes had been reported stolen from the Budget 19 Motel on Route 28.

Troopers additionally determined that the driver of the stolen Mercedes, later identified as Johnson, was allegedly impaired at the time of the crash. He was taken into custody at the scene and was later transported to Kingston Health Alliance Hospital to be treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He now faces the following charges:

  • Third-degree criminal possession of stolen property
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property
  • Driving while ability impaired by drugs
  • Resisting arrest
  • Multiple traffic violations

The driver of the Ford was uninjured in the crash, according to state police. Johnson's next court appearance is scheduled for October 15 at the Town of Kingston Court.
