Sex crimes suspect who fled in converted ambulance turns himself in to Alabama authorities
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — After a month-long search conducted by Oregon and Alabama law enforcement agencies, a sex crimes suspect with ties to Wasco County has been arrested.
Adam Renk turned himself in to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday. Jail records show the 39-year-old man is being held on seven charges, including:
- First-degree attempted sodomy
- Second-degree sodomy
- Production of child pornography
- First-degree sexual abuse
- Second-degree sexual abuse
- Sex abuse of a child less than 12 years old
- Sexual torture and abuse
Wasco County District Attorney Matthew Ellis' Office reported Renk's bond was denied during a hearing in Alabama on Wednesday. The agency also announced local officials have an additional arrest warrant for the suspect on the charges of unlawful sexual penetration, sodomy and sex abuse.
Ellis' office first announced Renk had been charged with multiple sex crimes against a victim under the age of 12 on Sept. 4. Officials said the offenses were “ongoing in nature,” dating back to 2020 and occurring in Antelope.
The office additionally revealed the suspect had pre-existing charges in Alabama, where he was accused of multiple sex crimes — including child sexual abuse and torture — against an 11-year-old victim.
According to the agency, Renk posted bond in Alabama and was released from pre-trial custody, and fled the state when he learned he could be charged with additional crimes.
Later on Sept. 9, Oregon State Police reported the suspect was last seen leaving Alabama in a converted Ford Ambulance in early August.
OSP’s investigation into Renk began on June 21, after a minor told authorities they had been sexually abused by him.
Officials are working to obtain a governor's warrant to ensure the suspect returns to Wasco County when his Alabama case is closed.
