Temporary Foreign Worker Program Important Tool for ICI Roofing

Jim Facette, CRCA’s executive director, recently expressed that the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program is a necessary tool to help the industrial, commercial, and institutional roofing industry combat the acute labour shortage.

While labour shortages are affecting all trades, CRCA’s roofing and building envelope members have been especially hit hard, which is why Facette says the TFW program is needed to help CRCA members fill existing gaps.

“Low wages and abusive employers are not CRCA members, our members must qualify with respective provincial associations before they become CRCA members, this process ensures CRCA members are ‘best in class,’” said Facette.

In a recent letter to Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, CRCA stressed that the TFW program is an important tool to help solve the industry’s labour shortage.

“We understand programs can always be improved and should not be abused, CRCA members pay well and treat TFW’s like any other employee,” said Facette.

The Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers to fill temporary jobs when qualified Canadians are unavailable.

The program is regulated through the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations and is administered in partnership with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
