LASG SET FOR CIVIC WEEK TO BOOST COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

As part of efforts to foster community participation and enhance civic responsibilities, the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement has said that plans are being put in place for the 2024 Civic Week, which is scheduled to be held in November.

This was revealed by the Special Adviser, Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, during an Interactive Session with the Press in his office at Alausa, Ikeja on Tuesday 

Explaining further, the Special Adviser said that Civic Week will present opportunities for residents to interact directly with the government and air their opinions on various issues as they affect their localities, which will in turn help in the decision-making process of the Government. 

Speaking on other activities of the Office, Afolabi said that as part of the mandate of the Office which is to act as a liaison between the Executive and Legislative, some of the Management Staff of the Office will be paying a working visit to the National Assembly to observe plenary sessions from October 9 to 11, 2024.

He added that the working visit is part of the Office’s effort to enhance the synergy between the State Government and the Lagos State Representatives at the National level.

Reiterating his commitment to the “Flag-Up Lagos Project”, the Special Adviser said the Office has procured the Nigerian Flags and the Lagos State Flags that will be presented to the Law Makers as a reminder of their commitment to uphold the values of justice, equity and the shared mission to strengthen democracy while delivering dividends of democracy to the citizens they represent and serve.

Also, speaking on the new engagement channels put in place by the Lagos State Government to facilitate feedback from its citizens, Dr. Afolabi said that the enormous responses gotten so far have been an eye-opener to the Government, adding that the responses are being compiled and will be presented at the Lagos State Executive meeting, where modalities will be developed to start addressing the issues that have been raised immediately.

Appreciating Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his dedication to the people of Lagos State, the Special Adviser advised Lagosians to be patient with the Government and shun all violent activities that might lead to the destruction of lives, properties and infrastructures built with taxpayers.
