Evan Mobley shines in expanded offensive role

The First Sip
Cleveland Cavaliers’ forward Evan Mobley was voted as the second most likely NBA player to have a breakout season in this year’s GM survey. On Tuesday night, he showed why.
Mobley scored 17 points in the first half. But it wasn’t just his scoring that was impressive — it was how he scored his points. Mobley’s first possession of the game was a face-up, going straight at his defender for a basket.
As the game progressed, Mobley showed how comfortable he felt in Kenny Atkinson’s new offense. He was bringing the ball up in transition and going up with shot attempts he routinely would pass out of.

Early in the second quarter, we got the highlight of the night. It’s everything we’ve been discussing; a confident drive from above the break. But what made this special was leaping off the wrong foot and slamming it down with the left hand. This ambidextrous finish was an exclamation point on the closest thing to a ‘statement’ game you can have in the preseason.
