Daiya Kira to return at the end of October!
Back in June we saw the highly anticipated debut of former Japanese amateur standout Daiya Kira (1-0, 1) [吉良大弥], who is tipped by many as a future star of the sport. In his debut he made lightwork of Thai visitor Khomsan Kaewruean (5-3, 3), in a win that has rather oddly netted him a top 15 world ranking with the WBA.
Today it was announced that he would be back in the ring at the end of October, in a notable step up bout, as he takes on Venezuelan fighter Orlando Pino (15-2, 9).
Pino is unknown outside of Latin America, where he has had all 17 bouts. At home he has gone 15-0, with all his wins coming in either Caracas or Petare. However he is 0-2 on the road, with losses to Tobias Reyes, for the IBF Latin Light Flyweight title in 2022, and Erick Rosa, in 2023. Whilst those losses are of note, it should be noted that both Rosa and Reyes are unbeaten contenders, with Reyes being a very dangerous Argentinian sporting a 16-0-1 (15) record at the moment, and both being in the mix for a world title fight.
The bout, which will be held over 8 rounds will take place on "LifeTime Boxing Fights 24", which will be held on October 31st at Korakuen Hall with the bout serving as the chief support on the show to a Japanese Super Flyweight title eliminator.
