Trump aide: Tim Walz a 'threat to democracy' because he wants to 'count the popular vote'

Lynne Patton, a senior advisor to Donald Trump's 2024 campaign, argued that Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) are a "threat to democracy" because they are pushing to "count the popular vote" instead of relying on the Electoral College.

During a Wednesday interview on the right-wing network Real America's Voice, Patton was asked what Trump's team was doing to combat voting by undocumented immigrants.

"I really don't want to get into too much specifics about what we're doing to specifically combat illegals on the roster, because, again, that only opens the door for them to counteract it," Patton said. "And, you know, between Trump Force 47 and our Protect the Vote initiative, we are dedicated to protecting every legal vote."

The Trump adviser then slammed Walz because he said he wanted to abolish the Electoral College system.

"We are dedicated to mitigating threats against the voting process," she explained. "Meanwhile, Waltz yesterday is saying that we should eliminate the electoral college, that we should count the popular vote in terms of determining our elections."

"You know, the Harris-Waltz ticket continues to be the real threat to democracy, while Donald J. Trump just wants to ensure free, fair, and safe elections."

Abolishing the Electoral College would ensure that every vote had a chance to count equally.
