Bears rule out safety Jaquan Brisker for Sunday's game in London

WARE, England — Bears safety Jaquan Brisker has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars after reporting a concussion in the hours before the Bears flew to England, general manager Ryan Poles said Wednesday.

Brisker hurt his head when forcing tight end Tommy Tremble to fumble in the second quarter Sunday against the Panthers. Poles said he thought Brisker did a good job of not leading with his head on a tackle but “unfortunately the offensive player hit the side of his helmet.”

Poles said the Bears will “take out time and make sure he’s completely healthy.” Brisker has suffered concussions in each of the past three years.

He credited Brisker for being honest with the Bears about his symptoms, which he said didn’t develop until Monday afternoon. He was diagnosed with a concussion Monday evening and was left home.

Veteran Jonathan Owens figures to start in his place.

Also Wednesday, the Bears announced that defensive end Jacob Martin would begin his 21-day practice window after starting the year on injured reserve. Tight end Tommy Sweeney, whom the Bears at the end of training camp, was added to the practice squad.
