Weekend preview: Third time lucky as Women aim for FA Cup history?
Royal Wootton Bassett Town aim to become history-makers on Sunday when they take on Torquay United in the Adobe Women's FA Cup third qualifying round (2pm kick off). Having fallen short at this stage for two consecutive years, a victory will see Bassett reach the competition first round proper for the first time ever. To achieve that feat though Bassett will need to pull of an upset win against tier five opponents. Bassett did just that to see off Ilminster Town on penalties in the previous round. However, that win was at home with Bassett now required to triumph on the road in Devon. Adam Wood's side will also need to overcome a Torquay team who beat Bassett 5-2 in the third qualifying round two seasons ago. The odds may be against them, but - with the opportunity to make history - Bassett will give it everything they have got. Prior to that, Saturday sees the Men's First Team return home to take on Longlevens in the Hellenic League Premier Division (Sustain Stadium, 3pm kick off). Bassett did the double over Longlevens in the league last season, including a comfortable 3-0 home win, while Sam Collier's side also were victorious when the teams met at the Sustain Stadium in the FA Vase. Admission on Saturday is £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and free for RWBTFC youth members. Meanwhile in the Wiltshire League Premier Division, the Development team continue their busy month away at Melksham Town Reserves (3pm kick off).
