In unanimous vote, Tonawanda approves 4-way stop at intersection of fatal crash

0

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A residential Tonawanda intersection where a teenager was hit and killed earlier this year will be changed to a four-way stop following a unanimous vote from the Town Board on Monday night.

Additional stop signs will be added at the intersection of Woodstock Avenue and Yorkshire Road, which is currently a two-way stop that only stops drivers on Yorkshire.

Residents called for a change after a 15-year-old was hit and killed by a car while riding a motorized bike in July. The driver of the vehicle was found to be not at fault and was not charged nor ticketed.

A memorial has been placed at the intersection since the crash.

Town Supervisor Joe Emminger previously told WIVB News 4 that a traffic study showed that the intersection should not qualify to be a four-way stop, but following the accident, residents pleaded with the town to make the area safer.

A date for installing the new stop signs has not yet been announced.
