Crossing guard for Ohio School in North Tonawanda struck by vehicle
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A crossing guard for Ohio Elementary School in North Tonawanda was struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning, according to North Tonawanda Police.
Police said the 78-year-old man was taken to ECMC after being struck at the intersection of Ohio Street and Abington Place at the start of the school day. He is expected to be okay and will be released shortly, according to North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec.
Tylec told WIVB News 4 that extra "slow down" signage was recently added to the area at the request of crossing guards. "Children at play" signs are also continuously placed around the school.
Tylec says they are increasing patrols around Ohio School to "ensure the safety of our students and crossing guards."
The driver is cooperating as the investigation continues.
