Activations honoring Hispanic Heritage will be present inside and out of Audi Field from the time gates open until the final whistle

Washington, D.C. (10/08/2024) – The Washington Spirit celebrates Hispanic Heritage this Sunday when it takes on Racing Louisville FC at 5 p.m. EDT at Audi Field. In the penultimate regular season home match for the Washington Spirit, hosting rights for a NWSL Playoffs quarterfinal match could potentially be at stake.

Fans can enjoy activations that honor the theme night well before the match begins. At 3:30, Mathieu Treumun, an artist of Colombian and Chilean descent specializing in ultra-realistic paintings, will perform a live art demonstration that pays homage to Spirit midfielder and Colombia native, Leicy Santos.

Simultaneously, local small business, Maracas Ice Pops, will be vending near Sandlot Bar (outside of Gate A) providing fans with delicious Mexican treats. Originally from Mexico, Julia Padierna-Peralta founded Maracas Ice Pops in Georgetown, Washington, D.C. to share her love for tropical flavors through handcrafted, all-natural fruit ice pops. DJ Ebb King will accompany Maracas Ice Pops, providing energetic tunes.

The entertainment will not stop once you are inside the gates of Audi Field. Also starting at 3:30, a roaming mariachi band will make its way from Sandlot Bar throughout the concourse. On Spirit Stage, Pa’ Gozar, a local Latin band, will play a variety of Latin music while being paired with Cuban dancers to teach basic dance moves. Meanwhile, DJ Xplosive–a popular Salvadorean performer based in the DMV–will keep Gate C bumping with his custom Latin music mix.

Other entertainment throughout Sunday’s Hispanic Heritage Night includes Brazilian Samba dancers performing on Spirit Stage from 4:30 until 4:45 p.m. EDT, while Colombian and Dominican dancers will perform a mix of Cumbia and Merengue dances on field at halftime. Also at halftime, Latin America Youth Center (LAYC) will do a parade of nations around the field.

Be sure to check out the merch stands at Spiritville, in the premium club, and around the concourse for a new “Vamos Spirit” trucker hat. Ticket holders should keep an eye on their emails later this week to purchase items online for pick up in stadium on matchday.

The Spirit is making Sunday’s match as inclusive as possible for native Spanish speakers. There will be an additional PA announcer relaying messages in Spanish, the Audi Field Command Line will provide the option for Spanish responses, and several videoboard graphics will be looped in both English and Spanish.

Spiritville will continue to include popular elements like EAFC stations, a PK Meet-and-Greet opportunity, Supporters tables, and a soft play zone. Additionally, for this match, face painters and caricature artists will be available and can paint flags of different Hispanic countries.

Finally, posters honoring Lauren Holiday Impact Award nominee, Anna Heilferty, will be distributed to early arriving fans. Heilferty who was nominated for her steadfast dedication and impact through her community efforts, will be recognized at the start of halftime.
