Staveley’s talks with Spurs

Several reports over the last few weeks have claimed that Staveley, who was formerly a minority owner at Newcastle, is plotting a move to buy a stake in Spurs.

The 51-year-old is thought to be backed by serious money from the Middle East, and according to Football Insider, she has already held talks with Daniel Levy over buying 25 per cent of the North London club.

Potential issue

Jacobs has now pointed out one potential problem in Levy entertaining a bid from Staveley and her backers.

The journalist explained that the Tottenham supremo is not looking to sell to a consortium who would be looking to scale up their investment and complete a full takeover in the future, which he suggested Staveley might be keen on.

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “Staveley is quite interesting, because if we again remember that first and foremost she’s a broker, for any stake she takes in a club she would always have the capacity to find other investors or scale up an investment because of her network. So this is the key thing that we have to understand with Tottenham at the moment.

“Is Daniel Levy going to entertain somebody that might buy small now without much practical or day-to-day say, but wants bigger responsibility, or stake, or other partners to come in the future?

“Or is this more like an FSG investment – surrounding a small minority stake to a more silent, strategic investor to allow the club to be on a firm financial footing – but to be run in the same way as it is now? And at the moment, I’m told it’s the latter.”

Decision expected soon?

This update from Jacobs comes just days after former Everton and Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness revealed that Levy and co have spoken to many potential investors recently.

He suggested to Football Insider that a final decision might be made soon by the Tottenham hierarchy, who are keen on bringing in some investment.
