Patriots Reportedly Making QB Change To Drake Maye

It’s a new era in New England.

The Patriots are planning to turn to rookie Drake Maye to start Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. New England’s decision to move toward the first-round pick was confirmed by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Maye has been a popular source of hope in and around One Patriot Place, despite appearing in just one game and largely being ignored in critical situations. New England decided a change was needed; however, head coach Jerod Mayo admitted that Jacoby Brissett “wasn’t good enough” following Sunday’s loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Brissett even agreed.

New England hasn’t treated its rookie like a typical backup, giving him 30% of first-team reps throughout the early portion of the season. Maye will get the full share heading into his first start Sunday, however, as the club hosts an AFC contender in the Houston Texans.

It’s a controversial decision to some, but there’s no going back now.

It’s Maye day.
