‘TikTok for education’ startup Revyze raises $6 million

0

French startup Revyze, which is aiming to build the TikTok of educational videos, has announced the close of a seed funding round raising €5.5 million ($6 million USD).

The round was led by Speedinvest and Moonfire, with others like Motier Ventures, Station F, Illka Paananen (co-founder of Supercell), Riccardo Zacconni and Sebastian Knusson (co-founders of King/Candycrush), and Nickey Skarstad (Director of Product, Duolingo) involved.

The Paris-based company describes itself as the “TikTok of education” making “personalized education, accessible to anyone, anywhere.” It does this by being an AI-powered learning platform where students can access verified short videos and quizzes made by their peers.

“Our vision is to become the GenZ’s learning friend,” writes the company in its ">LinkedIn bio.

Since its inception in 2022, the team has reached over one million users with one-third of 9th graders in France learning on Revyze in June.

The co-founders of the platform include Anatole Blanc, Guillaume Perrot, and Florent Scibberas.

Revyze startup team aims to make the app a daily habit for students

While originally focused on helping students in France to learn better, the company expanded into the US at the end of 2023 as they started to incorporate SAT, AP and college entrance support.

The introduction into the United States wasn’t a smooth transition to begin wit, as the ">co-founder Florent Sciberras described in a LinkedIn post sharing the funding news.

He said it was a year ago when Revyze “reached #1 of the app store in France,” which is when co-founder Guillaume Perrot took a flight to NYC to expand the app into the U.S.

He continued: “Three months later, in January, we were failing, Revyze was in crisis. Our product was not ready for global expansion.

“So we paused the US, went back to building our core product, iterated, relaunched, gained 20 retention points, and grew monthly active users 20x in 3 months.”

As the team continues its expansion into the states, the new funding will help the company to “accelerate on a growing trend” the co-founders have observed by speaking to their users over the summer.

“They told us: ‘Every morning, I open Insta and Revyze’. We want to develop a daily habit so that you come on Revyze every day to play, and learn, even if there is no test around the corner. We will do this by making the learning experience more gamified (think Duolingo), and more social (think Tiktok),” writes Schiberras.
