IF you thought iOS 18 was a big deal think again as another mega iPhone upgrade is on its way.

And the newest version will pack the star feature iPhone fans have been waiting for – Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence is the tech giant’s long-awaited AI push, using ChatGPT‘s OpenAI resources in some features for things like Siri.

It wasn’t quite ready for the iOS 18 launch nor iPhone 16 last month.

But the release could be in a matter of days according to a report from Bloomberg.

It’s claimed that Apple Intelligence will finally arrive as part of iOS 18.1 on Monday, October 28.

Don’t expect all the bells and whistles of Apple Intelligence straight away.

Writing improvement tools and summaries of notification are expected to be first but for US English only.

Other English versions such as the UK will have to hold out until December.

After that, integration with ChatGPT and Genmoji, which allows you to create your own emojis, are due to land.

Finally, a whole new Siri infused with AI will land in the spring time.

To take advantage of Apple Intelligence, your phone needs to have a number of specifics set up and ready to go.

As a reminder, only the following iPhones will be able to use Apple Intelligence:

  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max

Here are the three things you need to have on your iPhone for Apple Intelligence to work.

1. iOS 18.1 installed

The most obvious thing you will need on your iPhone to use Apple intelligence is iOS 18.1 installed.

If the latest report is true, that should land on October 28 so keep an eye out.

Full list of iOS 18.1 features

  • Writing Tools
  • Clean Up in Photos
  • Create a Memory movie in Photos
  • Natural language search in Photos
  • Notification summaries
  • Reduce Interruptions Focus
  • Intelligent Breakthrough & Silencing in Focus
  • Priority messages in Mail
  • Smart Reply in Mail and Messages
  • Summaries in Mail and Messages
  • Siri enhancements, including product knowledge, more resilient request handling, new look and feel, more natural voice, the ability to type to Siri, and more

2. The correct language

Apple Intelligence only works on certain languages to begin with, as explained earlier.

Device language and Siri language will need to be set to one of the supported languages.

That begins with US English.

Then in December, the following will be added:

  • English (Australia)
  • English (Canada)
  • English (New Zealand)
  • English (South Africa)
  • English (UK)

Next year, other languages like Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and others will be added on.

Apple says that once you have switched on Apple Intelligence, it will continue to work when you travel to other places around the world.

3. Check your storage

For Apple Intelligence to work you will need at least 4GB of free space on your iPhone.

Apple has warned that storage requirements for on-device Apple Intelligence models will increase as more features roll out, so expect to make way for more in future.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best...

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen (or swipe left to right on an iPhone X or later model), then tap in the bar and type a currency (like $200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier
