Kriskadecor designs "dynamic" outdoor cladding system
Promotion: metal chain-link manufacturer Kriskadecor has created a customisable outdoor cladding system composed of intricate aluminium components that shift and sway with the wind.
The idea was to draw attention to the building with a "constantly shifting surface" through the facade. "Far from being a static envelope, this façade takes on an active role within the building, fluidly integrating movement and functionality," said the company.
The facade uses aluminium chain-link hangings called KDO Kinetic System and was created by Kriskadecor Outdoor – the arm of Spanish brand Kriskadecor that makes exterior installations.
Kriskadecor Outdoor created the installation for the aerodynamics laboratory building of Oritia & Boreas, a Granada-based wind engineering company.
The outdoor system is made up of aluminium chain-link hangings finished in satin silver and signal blue, emblazoned with the Oritia & Boreas logo. It serves as an example of bespoke systems that Kriskadecor can create.
It was positioned over a large window on the west facade of the building to harness the area's thermal winds, which creates a "dynamic" rippling effect and provides interior protection from the afternoon heat.
This effect is achieved through horizontal rings placed at varying heights across the installation. The rippling of the chains creates "a subtle tinkling sound" heard outside for anyone stood close to the structure, according to the brand.
"Inside, the atmosphere remains calm and pleasant, without disrupting concentration or the working environment," it added.
"The installation's lightweight nature enables large surfaces to be clad without compromising the structural integrity of the building, while the transparency of the chain links filters sunlight, creating a play of light and shadow that enriches the interior environment," said the brand.
"Beyond meeting aesthetic demands, the dynamic facade enhances the building's climate comfort by regulating solar exposure and improving ventilation. Its flexibility allows for application across different building types, optimising both functionality and aesthetic expression," it added.
Kriskadecor explained that what sets its outdoor solutions apart is their easy customisation – companies can request chain links to be arranged into a custom logo, image or pattern specific to their brand.
The chain links can also be added to either the facade of a building or a specific outdoor installation.
Kriskadecor uses recyclable aluminium for its corrosion resistance, making it well-suited to myriad "environmental challenges", said the brand.
