Off the Beaten Path: North Creek Mosaic Project

NORTH CREEK, N.Y. (NEWS10) - A large scale art project in North Creek, depicting the recreation opportunities of the Adirondacks, is welcoming people to the downtown area in a colorful way. The North Creek Mosaic Project was a labor of love spanning more than a decade.

Kate Hartley is the artist who spearheaded the North Creek Mosaic Project. It started as an idea a little over 10 years ago and grew into so much more. Some refer to it as a "welcome sign" to their downtown.

“2,079 is our total of the volunteers who worked with me, then there’s also another 20,000 people over the course of the ten years that stuck one tile, but the people who really worked hard on it are a lot of the school children,” said Hartley.

From top to bottom, the mural is a collection of mosaic stories that celebrates the nature and recreation of the area on a spring day. Hartley describes it as a snapshot of that magical time of year where you can do all the recreation opportunities all at once.

If you want to visit the tourist attraction it is located at 261 Main Street in North Creek. If you want to take a piece of the mural home with you, visit the H'ART Studio & Gallery at 276 Main Street in North Creek.
